About Us

BPW is a charitable company limited by guarantee, established in 1977 to welcome artists interested in the practice and promotion of the art of printmaking.

As a membership-focused atelier, BPW provides a fully equipped and purpose-built studio with year-round access for a capacity of 100 artists.

BPW offers an extensive programme of practical courses, alongside open studios and demonstrations, designed to enhance public knowledge, understanding and appreciation of printmaking. BPW also provides opportunities for residencies, exhibitions, skills and professional advancement, to support the income, wellbeing and livelihood of its artists and the communities they work with.

Opportunities

At Belfast Print Workshop we strive to deliver on behalf of our members and the community. We want people who are insightful and inspiring to be part of our team.

We want to build our team with people who are passionate, who are open to ideas, collaboration, challenges and new ways of thinking.

“Interacting with printmakers from Belfast and abroad was stimulating and I know I benefited from it as we learned from each other.”

I was given the opportunity by the Arts Council in 1977 to create and manage a print workshop from scratch in their premises on the Stranmillis Road for 3 years. Sophie Aghajanian, our young daughter and I, lived in the gate lodge residency in the 11-acre grounds.

I welcomed returning to Belfast and, as well, the practical challenge of making a viable print studio. It also meant that as well as the day-to-day running of the Workshop, I was eventually able to continue with my own printmaking.

Gradually as the reputation and profile of the workshop increased we were able to attract artists from abroad as well as locally.

Looking back over the last 44 years I believe BPW has made and continues to make, a vital contribution to visual arts in Belfast offering artists open access to expansive facilities to extend their visual vocabulary as well as benefitting artistically and socially, including myself, from the interaction with other artists.
